TRACK 2
[TRACK TWO: TESTING THE WATERS] was all about experimentation. We wanted to just get out there and make something different than what we’ve ever done. So we chose some general themes, doused ourselves in glitter and went out to test Monti’s new flash.
I draw a lot of inspiration from mythology. My theme for this was “a lost siren”. I’ve always found sirens particularly fascinating, the beauty and danger of them, the allure of the unknown. For Monti’s theme, a troubled mind itching to be set free, her inner “wild woman”.
After seeing the results, I noticed a third theme from our photos combined: the ever changing wave of emotions that is being a young adult.
It’s hard not to “feel behind”, constantly comparing, downplaying what you do, forced into a rat race mindset. I’m working hard these days to see the value of my art, and view sharing it as a way to add to the sea of wonderful creation that’s out there, rather than not sharing it if it’s not more daring, intricate or impressive as the next. So let this be a reminder share your art, it’s precious because it’s yours!!

TRACK 3
[TRACK THREE: PSYCHEDELIC ROADTRIP] was about exploration. I’ve been on a journey, or a “roadtrip” through the landscape that is my inner world lately.
When you’re working to become an artist, there’s a pressure to make a “brand” for your work. Finding your niche is a great way to show the world your voice, but I’ve recently found it difficult to get there. On this project, I just brought my camera on a roadtrip to Mammoth with @montiverse and filmed whatever I felt. In the edit, I played around with wacky hues and overlays to make this circus of a video. I took the pressure off and just had fun with it, thinking of making art as “play” and not a duty. Through this new approach, I feel I may be one step closer to finding my artistic voice :)
